Amphoteric Ion Polyacrylamide

Amphoteric Ion Polyacrylamide

Product Introduction: Amphoteric Ion Polyacrylamide

Overview

Amphoteric ion polyacrylamide is a polymer synthesized through the copolymerization of acrylamide monomer and vinyl cationic monomer, followed by hydrolysis. Infrared spectroscopy analysis reveals that the product chain contains not only carboxyl anion charges from the hydrolysis of acrylamide but also vinyl cation charges. This unique composition results in an amphoteric ion irregular polymer with both cationic and anionic charges on its molecular chain.

Product Characteristics

Due to the presence of both cationic and anionic groups within its molecules, amphoteric ion polyacrylamide exhibits unique properties. It not only retains the application characteristics of conventional cationic flocculants but also offers additional advantages. It is ideal for use in strong acid extraction of ores or recovering valuable metals from acidic catalysts containing metals. It is important to note that amphoteric ion polyacrylamide is not a simple mixture of anionic and cationic polyacrylamide; rather, it is a distinct product. When cationic polyacrylamide and anionic polyacrylamide are used together, they can react and produce precipitates, making the amphoteric ion product an optimal choice.

Technical Specifications

  • Appearance: White Granules

  • Solid Content: ≥88%

  • Molecular Weight: 8,000,000 - 10,000,000

  • Cationic Degree: 5% - 60%

  • Anionic Degree: 0% - 10%

  • Solubility: ≤2

Usage Guidelines

  1. Granular polyacrylamide flocculant should not be directly added to wastewater. It must be dissolved in water before use to treat wastewater.

  2. The water used to dissolve the granular polymer should be clean (e.g., tap water) and not wastewater. Room temperature water is sufficient, and heating is generally not required. Dissolution may be slow at temperatures below 5°C.

  3. The recommended concentration of the polymer solution is 0.1% - 0.3%, which means adding 0.1g - 0.3g of polymer powder per liter of water.

Product Properties

  1. Flocculation: PAM can neutralize charges and act as a flocculant through bridging and adsorption of suspended substances.

  2. Adhesion: It can exert an adhesive effect through mechanical, physical, and chemical actions.

  3. Friction Reduction: PAM can effectively reduce the frictional resistance of fluids. Adding a trace amount of PAM to water can reduce resistance by 50% - 80%.

  4. Thickening: PAM exhibits thickening properties under neutral and acidic conditions. When the pH value exceeds 10, PAM is prone to hydrolysis, forming a semi-network structure that further enhances thickening.

Applications

  1. Water Treatment in Chemical & Municipal Industries:

    • Purification and clarification of tap water and high-turbidity water.

    • Coal washing, mineral processing, metallurgy, steel production, zinc and aluminum processing, and electronic industry water treatment.

    • Widely applied in the oil industry for drilling mud treatment, prevention of water channeling, friction reduction, and enhanced oil recovery (EOR), including tertiary oil recovery.

  2. Textile Industry:

    • Serving as a sizing agent, providing stable slurry performance, reduced slurry loss, lower fabric breakage rates, and smoother fabric surfaces.

  3. Paper Industry:

    • Increasing retention rates of fillers and pigments, reducing raw material loss and environmental pollution.

    • Enhancing paper strength (both dry and wet), tear resistance, and porosity, thereby improving visual and printing qualities. With its amphoteric nature, AIPAM offers superior performance in a wide range of pH values, higher filtration rates, and lower moisture content in filter cakes. It is also effective in acid extraction of ores and recovery of valuable metals from acidic catalysts containing metals.

  4. Food & Packaging:

    • Used in sugar cane and beet sugar production for juice clarification and syrup extraction by the phosphate flotation process.

  5. Enzyme Fermentation Broth Clarification:

    • Facilitating flocculation and clarification in enzyme fermentation processes.

  6. Feed Protein Recovery:

    • Recovering feed protein with stable quality and performance, without adversely affecting chicken survival rates, weight gain, or egg production.

    • Applications also extend to synthetic resin coatings, water plugging materials for civil engineering grouting, improving cement quality in the building materials industry, adhesives in construction, gap filling and sealing, soil improvement, electroplating, textile printing, and dyeing, among others.

Unique Advantages

In comparison to inorganic salts, AIPAM demonstrates severalfold to dozensfold higher effectiveness, particularly in wastewater containing anionic charges. Utilizing water-soluble azo initiators like AIBA, its molecular weight can be increased to over ten million, further enhancing its performance.
